  • The Broken One

    Rating: 3 out of 5.

A good read, my only reason for giving it 3 stars is there was a good bit of info-dumping, instead of actions. The teams sat around and discussed a lot.

  • Damaged, Triple Canopy Book 1

    Rating: 4 out of 5.

Reading Riley Edwards is like being a part of a big family, from characters that started with the 707 and Next Generation series. Damaged, begins a new series about Triple Canopy Security. The main character is Hadley Walker, Jasper and Emily Walker’s older twin daughter. You can read Jasper’s story, Freeing Jasper as he is one of the original members of Triple Canopy. This is an easy short read, not very suspenseful but if you love the family you’ll want to know how Hadley gets her man.

    Publisher’s Blurb

She promised her love would set him free. He promised he’d break her. They were both right.

Brady Hewitt was all too familiar with the horrors of war. They clung to him, or maybe he clung to them, using the nightmares as an excuse to keep others at bay—especially his boss’s daughter, Hadley Walker. Beautiful, sexy, ambitious, and forbidden. Not just because the former Special Forces soldier respected her father and liked his job. She was too good for him—all sunshine and smiles while he was darkness and filth.

Hadley Walker knew all about love—how it felt, its power, and its ability to heal. Her parents taught her first, then her uncles, cousins, and siblings. Her family taught her something else—never quit, never retreat, and never turn your back on those you love. Hadley’s mission was simple—convince the man she’d fallen in love with to take a chance. But winning the battle wouldn’t be simple. Brady Hewitt was as stubborn as he was traumatized, clutching to his demons and refusing to let them go. Though Hadley’s persistence gave her a tactical advantage—the more she pushed, the more he wanted to believe.

Just as Hadley’s winning the war, with Brady teetering on the edge of all the beauty they could share, disaster strikes. Ugliness wraps itself around Brady’s heart and he shuts down. Leaving Hadley with one last question: who was right—her or Brady?

Does love conquer all, or are there some nightmares that never let go?

  • The Book I’m Thankful for this Year!

  • Outlander, Books 1-8

    An uncompleted 10 book series

    Rating: 5 out of 5.

    Summer Reading

Hello to all! I’ve been remiss in my blogging but I have a good excuse. This summer I decided to finish reading the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. A lengthy eight books with a ninth book being released in November 2021! Also, after I read each book I’m watching the series which is now available on Netflix and Starz. I love this first book so much. I don’t know how long it took Gabaldon to write these books because she puts so much into them and each one is epic. I’m curious to see how it all pans out.

I’m so engrossed in everything Scotland and I love Claire and Jamie. Please note, this series has a lot of triggers and my only criticism is that they should be duly noted. The books and the TV series are both very graphic.

All the books are lengthy running around 800-1000 pages and rich in historical and scenic details. Also, Gabaldon has several spin-offs and companion books about the series creating an enormous epic read.

I will probably read more pages and words this year than ever before given the girth of these novels, however, Goodreads tracks number of books read so I may not make my yearly goal of 100 books. Drats!

I will update this page after each book and TV season has been watched.

Note: I found a great fandom site: https://outlander.fandom.com/wiki/Outlander_(novel)#Plot

    Book 1, Outlander, Publisher’s Blurb:

Scottish Highlands, 1945. Claire Randall, a former British combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the year of Our Lord 1743.

Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of a world that threatens her life, and may shatter her heart. Marooned amid danger, passion, and violence, Claire learns her only chance of safety lies in Jamie Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior. What begins in compulsion becomes urgent need, and Claire finds herself torn between two very different men, in two irreconcilable lives.

Book 6, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, Plot Summary:

The book follows 20th-century doctor Claire Fraser and her 18th-century husband, Jamie Fraser, as they face the politics and turmoil of the forthcoming American Revolution. The preceding novel, The Fiery Cross, concluded with political unrest in the colonies beginning to boil over while the Frasers try to live peacefully on their isolated homestead. Claire’s skill as a healer on Fraser’s Ridge brings suspicions of witchcraft and murder upon her, while Jamie faces conflicting loyalties – one to the oath he swore to the British crown after the Jacobite Rising, and one to his hope for the American independence his daughter Brianna and son-in-law Roger have assured him of.

Book 7, An Echo in the Bone Plot Summary:

Jamie Fraser, former Jacobite and reluctant rebel, is already certain of three things about the American rebellion: The Americans will win, fighting on the side of victory is no guarantee of survival, and he’d rather die than have to face his illegitimate son—a young lieutenant in the British army—across the barrel of a gun.

Claire Randall knows that the Americans will win, too, but not what the ultimate price may be. That price won’t include Jamie’s life or his happiness, though—not if she has anything to say about it.

Meanwhile, in the relative safety of the twentieth century, Jamie and Claire’s daughter, Brianna, and her husband, Roger MacKenzie, have resettled in a historic Scottish home where, across a chasm of two centuries, the unfolding drama of Brianna’s parents’ story comes to life through Claire’s letters. The fragile pages reveal Claire’s love for battle-scarred Jamie Fraser and their flight from North Carolina to the high seas, where they encounter privateers and ocean battles—as Brianna and Roger search for clues not only to Claire’s fate but to their own. Because the future of the MacKenzie family in the Highlands is mysteriously, irrevocably, and intimately entwined with life and death in war-torn colonial America.

With stunning cameos of historical characters from Benedict Arnold to Benjamin Franklin, An Echo in the Bone is a soaring masterpiece of imagination, insight, character, and adventure—a novel that echoes in the mind long after the last page is turned.

1778: France declares war on Great Britain, the British army leaves Philadelphia, and George Washington’s troops leave Valley Forge in pursuit. At this moment, Jamie Fraser returns from a presumed watery grave to discover that his best friend has married his wife, his illegitimate son has discovered (to his horror) who his father really is, and his beloved nephew, Ian, wants to marry a Quaker. Meanwhile, Jamie’s wife, Claire Randall, and his sister, Jenny, are busy picking up the pieces.
The Frasers can only be thankful that their daughter Brianna and her family are safe in twentieth-century Scotland. Or not. In fact, Brianna is searching for her own son, who was kidnapped by a man determined to learn her family’s secrets. Her husband, Roger, has ventured into the past in search of the missing boy . . . never suspecting that the object of his quest has not left the present. • Corrupt

    Rating: 4 out of 5.

Please note that this book is not for everyone. It is dark, twisted, had tons of trigger warnings, and is erotic. This book’s “revenge” theme was problematic, but I was addicted and couldn’t stop reading it.

Corrupt is New Adult, erotic 18+ read. The sex scenes are a 10/10. Also, there is some diversity in the novel, which I find more and more authors including in their works, so Kudos for the bisexual female side character.

Overall a purely (no pun intended) erotic romance with a bit of mystery and suspense. If you enjoy this genre, then this is a must-read.

    Publisher’s Blurb

I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

    His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

    But I noticed him.

I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

    Because he’s finally noticed me.

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.

My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

    In my city.

The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

Best thing about this series is the cover and how they made it look like a cover of a magazine. Good read but not great. Felt the male lead was too risqué for my taste. He technically didn’t cheat but…

  • Cruel Paradise

    Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

An enjoyable read, but the first book was so much better. Cruel Paradise had some hilarious banter and steamy scenes, but that’s about it. Killian Black was a charismatic, sexy, powerful alpha male, and Juliet was plain. I didn’t feel too much for the character, not enough back story.

The epilogue, a big MEH. The whole book seemed rushed as if the author just rinse and repeat from the first book.

Then again, where’s the fun in following the rules?

  • Beautifully Cruel

    Rating: 5 out of 5.

Just finished it, it pulled me in from the get-go, and I couldn’t put it down. Beautifully Cruel is an intense, very sexy read with delicious banter and chemistry. Oh, and this duet does NOT end in a cliffhanger, which I find so refreshing. JT Geissinger is a new-to-me author but is now one of my go-to authors. Her writing is witty, her sex scenes are HOT, and the story consistently keeps steady throughout, along with a constant state of tension with Tru and Liam’s sizzling chemistry. Their dark humor keeps this mafia romance from being too dark, and the twist at the end was fantastic and unexpected. Wow!

    King (noun):
    1) Having the highest rank in a dominance hierarchy
    2) The most powerful man in a group
    3) Liam Black

He was a stranger to me, a dark and dangerous presence who materialized from the shadows one rainy night to save me from a vicious attack. I didn’t know his name or where he was from. All I knew was that the only place I’d ever felt safe was in his arms.

    But safety is an illusion.
And not every savior is a hero.
And—as I’d soon find out—having a king save your life comes with a price.

Liam Black wanted something from me in return.

  • The Virgin Rule Book

    Rating: 3 out of 5.

Book Review: The Virgin Rule Book, (Rules of Love #1)

Hmm, usually, I love Lauren Blakely’s work, The Virgin Rule Book was a predictable but still a decent read. Well-written friends with benefits trope with steamy scenes and a HEA. Not much angst between the couple other than they get in their own way while on their journey to coupledom. Typical Blakely style, fun, and quick read. The best part of the book is that Crosby and Nadia have been friends since childhood – as Nadia’s brother’s best friend – and their chemistry is among the best parts of the book, and I enjoyed the playful tone.

A sexy, brother’s best friend sports romance from # 1 New York Times bestseller Lauren Blakely!
Let me make a few things clear. I didn’t go to the wedding intending to dance with the best man, to dare him to show me a very sexy pic on his phone, or to accidentally kiss him in the hotel elevator after the reception ended.

But you know how it goes. Things just happen at weddings…
The next day, Crosby and I agree to put all those shenanigans behind us. The fun-loving, stupidly gorgeous, all-star baseball player might be my brother’s best friend, but he’s my friend too and has been for years, so it’s easy to move on, especially since I have a high-profile business to run.

But since he’s newly single and I’m always single, it turns out we both desperately need plus ones. We agree to “publicly date” over the next two weeks of galas, parties and events before his baseball season begins.

The only trouble is the more time I spend with Crosby, the more I keep imagining how much I want him to take my V-card.
And when I broach the possibility with Crosby, his answer surprises the hell out of me.

  • Finding Fate: A Dangerous Romantic Suspense

    Rating: 5 out of 5.

Book Review: Finding Fate: A Dangerous Romantic Suspense

WOW! This book was crazy sexy and suspenseful! I was hooked from page 1 and immediately loved this story. It had everything I love in a romantic suspense.

Author, Kennedy Mitchell, delivers a heartfelt and intense seductive thriller. The tender love that develops between Fate and Nate – wow, I just realized their names rhyme – and the all too realistic story on the tragedies of human trafficking makes this book an excellent read.

I loved master hacker Fate Haley with her quirky pink hair and choice of junk food, but what makes her special is her fight for the justice of others. However, when she puts herself into a sticky situation, things don’t go as planned.

Computer nerd or vigilante…Master hacker Fate Haley has one objective on her mind – vengeance. A year after an unthinkable tragedy destroys her family, Fate has the two men responsible in her sights and a plan in place to ensure they won’t slip through the CIA’s fingers again. At the edge of insanity, Fate’s prepared to risk it all until he slips in one dark night set on saving her.

He’s the only one who can save her now…Nash Bartley enjoys his new gig with the Contract Special Operations team. The constant travel and dangerous missions keep distance between him and any potential long-term relationship. He’s done that before and swore he’ll never do it again. Until the woman he’s sent to rescue blindsides his heart, altering his outlook on love and the future.
Attraction sizzles the moment the two meet and affection blooms during the long humid nights in captivity. When the men hunting her zero in, Nash is forced to sacrifice a piece of himself to protect the woman he’s grown to love. But will it be enough to save them both?

This book is suggested for readers 18+ due to detailed mature content.
